A sharp citrus-pepper opening with bitter herbs, then dry cedarwood. A classic, almost old-fashioned elegance — in the good sense.

How it develops

The opening is a handful of citrus with bitter herbs running through it: bitter orange, bergamot, mandarin and neroli, with caraway, coriander and wormwood making it green, herbal and a touch medicinal, and birch wood for a dry, tarry edge. The heart is a spice cupboard: Guatemalan cardamom up front, with pepper, ginger and cinnamon, juniper for the gin-like note, iris and orris for the powder and jasmine softening it briefly. The base is dry and classic: Tahitian vetiver and cedar, tea and leather, oakmoss and amber. From bitter citrus to cardamom to dry wood.

Who it's for, and when

Daytime, the office and spring; wearable all year. If you're looking for something sweet or modern, this isn't the fragrance. Love citrus and pepper but want it more modern and smoother, see S-50. Looking for the same classic dryness with vetiver and minerality, H-90 is the neighbour.

How to wear it

Two to three sprays on neck and wrists, on moisturised skin. Don't rub. One spray on a shirt keeps the cardamom until evening.
