A spicy, lightly boozy opening with rum and cardamom, moving into tobacco and saffron and ending on a warm amber-vanilla base. Round and golden from beginning to end — exactly the kind of fragrance you put on when you want things to feel good.

How it develops

The opening is broad and warm: rum and olibanum (church incense) give it something boozy and resinous, with bitter orange, bergamot and grapefruit for the bitter freshness and cardamom, pink pepper and ginger for the spicy prickle. The heart is where the name comes from: white tobacco flower and saffron, dry and golden, with sandalwood, jasmine, osmanthus and orris making it creamy, floral and powdery, and a fruity tutti-frutti touch keeping it light. The base is big and warm: tonka bean and vanilla for the sweetness, myrrh and labdanum for the resin, patchouli, musk, cedar and vetiver for the dry, earthy finish.

Who it's for, and when

Autumn and winter, day and evening. Less at home in warm weather. Love amber but want it without tobacco and simpler, see M-380. Looking for tobacco and cinnamon with more smoke, M-170 is the neighbour.

How to wear it

Two sprays on the neck, on moisturised skin. Don't rub. One spray on a coat keeps the amber for days.
