Starts as a fresh sea fragrance, but then the incense and patchouli underneath come up and it turns dark and smoky. The same freshness as the classic, with a night version underneath.

How it develops

Sea notes and bergamot open cool and salty — sea air with a citrus edge, the part everyone recognises. The heart is green and aromatic: rosemary, sage and geranium, herbal and slightly bitter, like a herb garden by the coast. And then the base, which is what separates it from the classic: incense, smoky and resinous, and patchouli, earthy and dark. What began as a summer day ends as an evening by the sea.

Who it's for, and when

Four seasons, from the office to the evening; at its best in spring and autumn. For anyone who finds the classic version too light — that one is A-20, airier and better for summer. Looking for fresh with pepper instead of smoke, see S-50.

How to wear it

Two to three sprays on neck and wrists, on moisturised skin. Don't rub. Incense loves fabric — one spray on a shirt lasts until evening.
